This February, the KLT Foundation had the incredible honor of hosting the LOL Festival in memory of our beloved Kathryn, or Kayleigh, as many of us knew her. The name of the festival, Love of Life, was chosen because it so perfectly reflects who Kayleigh was—full of life, love, and bright happiness. She had an infectious spirit, a love for music, dancing, and an unwavering devotion to those she cherished. This festival was created in her honor, to bring people together with the same joy and celebration that she brought into the world. The festival was a vibrant and heartfelt gathering, filled with creativity, connection, and community. Local artists and craft vendors lined the venue, showcasing their unique talents, while food trucks served up delicious meals that kept everyone satisfied throughout the day. Families and friends came together to compete in a friendly corn hole tournament, try their luck in raffles, and bid on exciting auction items. A dedicated kids’ area, complete with a bounce house engaging and amusing clowns, and fun activities, ensured that even the youngest attendees had a magical experience.

Music in the Air
Music was the heart of the festival, filling the air from morning until night. Talented local artists and bands performed live throughout the day, creating an atmosphere of celebration and togetherness. Thank you, Noah Hunton Band, Ryan Thurgaland, Double Times, Celtic Conundrum, Humans in Disguise, Uncle Bob’s Rock Shop, and Gypsy Sparrow! Y’all rock!
As the sun began to set, a deeply emotional moment unfolded—a heartfelt tribute video honoring Kayleigh played on the Joke Joint truck next to the stage, illuminating the night with love and remembrance. Watching it against the backdrop of the setting sun was a touching reminder of why we were all gathered—to celebrate Kathryn’s life and the legacy she left behind. This year’s festival was made even more special with a new venue at the Villages Polo Fields, Mossy Oak. The location not only provided a more accessible and spacious setting for the event, but as night fell, the glow of the festival lights created a breathtaking scene, reinforcing the warmth and unity of our community.
Beyond being a day of celebration, the LOL Festival serves as a cornerstone of the KLT Foundation’s mission. It is an essential fundraising event that enables us to continue our efforts. We are overjoyed to share that this year’s festival was a tremendous success, both in terms of community engagement and fundraising efforts. We raised over $16,500 in net revenues. Because of the generosity of our attendees, supporters, and donors, we can continue our work. This includes our Grief Week support initiatives, which help individuals and families through the difficult journey of losing a child while also encouraging them to embrace life with love and resilience.
Special Thanks!
A special thank you goes out to those who made this year’s festival even more impactful and unforgettable:
Alex Soto and On the Go Mobile Advertising for generously donating his brand-new LED billboard truck.
Rebecca Morse for providing the haystacks for the 4th year in a row, helping us to create a unique experience for everyone.
Another heartwarming highlight was the Elite Stampeder Cheerleader group, who not only volunteered but also performed, adding a special touch to the day. As Kayleigh was involved in both cheer/dance and band throughout her school years, we hope to expand this aspect next year—perhaps even welcoming the VHS band to perform in her honor.
All the volunteers, each of whom played an essential role in making this day possible.
Lily Ulate, whose continuous and heartfelt efforts brought so many special elements to the festival, including special silent auction items and securing the clowns that brought smiles to so many faces.
The student volunteers, who brought their energy and enthusiasm to assist with setting up special areas within the festival and keeping everything running smoothly.
Say Their Name
This year’s festival was not just about celebration, it also created a space for remembrance; allowing attendees to honor and remember their loved ones. The Say Their Name Remembrance Wall was a deeply moving addition. Special recognition to Sarah and Leigh Ann Lenker, who dedicated their entire day to sitting at the "Say Their Name" Wall of Remembrance, ensuring a space for love and memory. As we watched it fill up throughout the day, each name, a powerful testament to the love that remains. It was a beautiful reminder that we are never alone in our grief, and together, we carry the memories of those we’ve lost.
Survey
As we move forward, we hope that everyone who attended left with a renewed sense of purpose—to cherish time with loved ones, to spread joy wherever possible, and to extend a helping hand to those in need. By doing so, we continue to honor Kayleigh and keep her light shining in our hearts.
If you were able to come to this year's festival, could you please take the time to fill out our survey? We'd love to know what you thought.
We will be sharing pictures and videos on our Instagram and Facebook accounts soon. Feel free to tag your friends and family.
With love and gratitude,
The Kathryn Leigh Thurgaland Foundation
